What We Do & Who We Help
What We Do.

What We Do

  • We provide layettes containing clothing, blankets, and other items to social workers and Nurses at hospitals and clinics to be given to families who cannot provide for their newborns. The layettes are provided with no identification as to their sources. The layettes contain the following items and are packed in hand made tote bags:
    • Sleepers (one or two piece)
    • Gowns
    • Lap-front shirts
    • Fabric hats
    • Receiving blankets
    • Quilts
    • Afghans
    • Bibs
    • Wash cloths
    • Socks (may be purchased)
    • Changing pads

(Summer layettes include diaper shirts and/or creepers. Winter layettes include sleep sacks and sweater sets.)

  • We provide burial ensembles to any family who suffers the loss of an infant, regardless of financial status. Burial ensembles are provided in three sizes – full term, preemie, fetal demise.
  • We provide bibs and small tote bags for home visiting services.
  • We serve as a community service organization for churches, Girl Scout groups, schools, etc.
How We Work
  • We collect donations of fabric, yarn, and money to buy fabric and yarn. These materials are provided to volunteers who produce the finished items.
  • We receive the finished items, sort and pack into sets (pre-pack), then pack the sets into a tote bag for the layettes.
  • We deliver the layettes to the various hospitals and clinics.
  • We hold workshops for volunteers to pick up supplies, turn in finished items, and get help if needed.
  • We have a social event each year to provide an occasion for all volunteers to gather together.

Who Can Participate?
We welcome anyone who sews, knits, crochets or who would like to learn these skills. We have members who are experienced in these areas to develop your skills. Our volunteers range in age from 12 to 105.

What Do We Make?
  • Sewn items include gowns, sleepers, lap front shirts, receiving blankets, crib quilts, creepers, washcloths, bibs, burp cloths, and tote bags.
  • Knitted and crocheted items include caps, bonnets, blankets, booties, sacques, and sweaters.
  • Sewing supplies and yarn are available free of charge to volunteers at each workshop. (Requests for supplies should be made prior to a meeting or workshop.)

TINY STITCHES

I LAY QUIETLY IN A TINY WHITE SHROUD

MADE WITH CLOTH,  AS SOFT AS A CLOUD.

MY SMALL HANDS ARE STILL, MY EYES ARE CLOSED-

WITH AN ANGELIC FACE THAT’S A SIGHT TO BEHOLD.

LIFE BEGAN AT THE MOMENT OF CONCEPTION-

I WAS A WANTED CHILD, WIHTOUT EXCEPTION.

I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY I WAS SENT FOR A WHILE-

THE FIRST THING I SAW WAS MOMMY’S SMILE.

SHE TOLD ME OF HER LOVE FOR ME-

THE MOMENT GOD LET ME BE.

WE GREW CLOSE IN A VERY SHORT WHILE-

AND I WAS TO BE HER GOLDEN HAIRED CHILD.

SOMEONE MADE THIS SHROUD FOR ME-

SO I COULD LEAVE THIS WORLD- AS PRETTY AS CAN BE.

EACH TINY STITCH THAT BROUGHT THIS CLOTH TOGETHER-

WAS HELD IN THE HANDS OF MY OWN MOTHER.

WHO GAVE ME A KISS AND TOLD ME GOODBYE-

AND GAVE ME BACK TO MY FATHER IN THE SKY.

WRITTEN IN MEMORY OF MY BABY GIRL, JENNY LEANNE
